Cooler Action Figure
.
Project:
My Role:
Cooler is an action figure inspired by Pratt graduate Marlon Polhemus, designer of the Igloo Playmate cooler. As a class, we were tasked with designing a line of toys. We decided that using Pratt graduates as inspiration for action figures would appeal to toy collectors as well as Pratt students and alumni, providing an alternative to traditional college memorabilia.
I designed Cooler as part of The Academics, a series of nine figures all of whom were inspired by famous Pratt alumni. Each figure in the series represented different departmens at Pratt Institute, including industrial and graphic design, illustration, art, fashion, photography, and architecture.
Cooler’s footware and clothing were inspired by a popular association to the Playmate cooler, the beach. Upon finalizing Cooler’s design, I modeled his body and head in Alias and Solidworks respectively. The computer models were then printed out, dipped in wax to give them a polished finish, and then cast in resin to produce the final model. Cooler’s cooler can be taken off to reveal his ice block head, complete with removable soda bottles and cans.
